About Trisangma & Peter

Trisangma & Peter have been training in meditation & mindfulness techniques for 22 years and 11 years respectively.  Since their marriage in 2007, they have co-taught mindfulness and meditation courses, workshops & retreats. Since 2005 they have studied with meditation teacher and neuroscientist John Yates, PhD, author of "The Illuminated Mind".  For eight months in 2011 they lived with him, studying his technique intensively. They also study full time in London with Geshe Tashi Tsering, whose secular-friendly, brilliant approach continues to be a major inspiration for their courses.  Peter and Trisangma are on a teacher training pathway for MBSR with the Centre for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts, and will begin teaching 8 week MBSR courses in the spring of next year.

Trisangma
Trisangma loves the challenge of placing traditional methods for developing concentration and a good heart into a secular model that can be applied by anyone living in the context of a modern urban environment and a contemporary lifestyle. She is inspired by the Dalai Lama’s efforts to promote secular values in the world.  She believes the secular principles of authentic concentration, values, and understanding can benefit anyone, whether they subscribe to a particular religion or not.

Trisangma has been practicing both Buddhism and meditation since she was eight years old. At 22 she began an intensive course of study that she continues to this day.  She has studied under Tibetan and Western masters in the Theravadin tradition and the lineage of the Dalai Lama.

When Trisangma was 30, she completed a three-year silent meditation retreat. In 2003, she began leading courses, workshops, and retreats for both Buddhist and secular audiences.

Peter
Peter’s background is in film development, acting and screenwriting.  In 2003 he set aside his acting and writing career to study Indo-Tibetan and Theravadin meditation techniques full time.  He has studied Eastern psychology in India, the United States and London.

Since 2010, his emphasis has been on teaching authentic secular methods for training the mind, specifically tailored towards those with a busy, modern lifestyle.  He knows from experience how balancing focus with an increased perspective can do wonders for creativity, as well as being an excellent antidote to the ups and downs of a creative lifestyle.

Peter has first hand experience of the tragic consequences of depression, and is very keen to help sufferers overcome this difficult state of mind.  He enjoys working from his own experience to help clients overcome anxiety in its many forms, as well as tackling the full gamut of addictive behaviours.  Fundamentally all these states of mind are mentally caused, they are not permanent and they are not physically hard wired into us. With training they can and will change for the better.
