Here is a letter from one of our students about how practicing mindfulness and concentration helped her navigate a time of grief and turmoil.
I am a Biomedical Scientist and Holistic Wellness Coach, and run a Wellness Based Community Centre (Satsanga Pte Ltd) in Singapore offering classes of nutrition, biorhythms, yoga and meditation. In January 2012, I commenced private studies with Trisangma and Peter, continuing until present, as well as participated in three 6-week group mindfulness trainings with them during this period (Levels 1&2 – 4 of the Concentration and Mindfulness Training Programme).
As it turned out, my marriage dissolved suddenly, right at the time that I commenced studies with Peter and Trisangma in January 2012. I do not say this lightly: the Concentration and Mindfulness Training Programme is definitely one of the supports that literally saved my life during the shock and trauma of my separation and throughout the entire divorce proceedings. Never in my life have I experienced such inner turmoil, feelings of abandonment & ungroundedness, as well as desperation. However, with deep gratitude, I recognise that I was incredibly fortunate to be enrolled in the mindfulness trainings with AuthentiCity, because I was taught valuable tools that became immediately relevant and useful for the waves of emotions that I was experiencing. Not only was I given immense encouragement and step by step instruction on how to maintain a daily meditation practice, but I also learned in more depth how to work with the functionalities of my own Mind; how to create a distance between myself and the circling thoughts; how to expand my awareness to catch emotions as they were rising; how to BE with my emotions objectively when I chose to direct my attention to them (rather than being subject to them). In essence, this training is one of the first that really helped me to understand how my mind works, and in that way - peace, understanding, healing & insight started to unfold for me rapidly. Additionally, the encouragement and expertise that AuthentiCity gave me in my meditation practice helped to create lasting habits of a daily practice that has since grown tremendously.
I am a teacher of meditation to the Satsanga community and have trained under many meditation masters, teachers and secular programmes. However, I have never encountered one like the Concentration and Mindfulness Training Programme run by AuthentiCity. This programme is unique because it gives a systematic, secular methodology to understand the nature of the mind, methods to troubleshoot what comes up during meditation, a way to appreciate measurable progress, relevancy to our day to day lives and a clear pathway of how to go deeper with the practice. This training has become the foundation of my personal meditation practice and has deepened the methods that I was practicing previously, as well as has flowed into my everyday life in the form of enhanced attention & awareness, improving my mental wellbeing and my relationships with others.
